{"id":9458,"date":"2019-10-16T11:47:57","date_gmt":"2019-10-16T10:47:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/duul.cz\/?p=9458"},"modified":"2020-01-06T22:04:25","modified_gmt":"2020-01-06T21:04:25","slug":"transgas-its-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/legacy.duul.cz\/en\/transgas-its-children\/","title":{"rendered":"Our TRANSGAS &#038; its children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">31\/10 \u2013 6\/12\u00a02019<br \/>\n<\/span><b>opening on Wednesday<\/b><b>October 30, 2019\u00a0<\/b><b>at 6 pm<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Built between 1972 and 1978 and designed by V\u00e1clav Aulick\u00fd, Ivo Loos, Ji\u0159\u00ed Eisenreich, Jind\u0159ich Mal\u00e1tek and Jan Fi\u0161er, the building of Transgas in Prague has become a symbol of the era\u2019s turmoil and has aroused strong emotions both when it emerged and during the recent discussion surrounding its demolition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The authenticity of the emotions \u2013 along with their intensity and the scope as well as the antagonism of the shared reactions (such as #SOSBrutalism) \u2013 inspired the authors of the exhibition concept to approach one of the members of the original team, an academic architect\u00a0 and a professor at the Faculty of Art and Design of Jan Evangelista Purkyn\u011b University, <\/span><b>Jan Fi\u0161er<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with an offer to symbolically \u201cresurrect\u201d the interior of the building, mainly in the form of drawings, working sketches, and historic project documentation, with the aim to introduce the contemporary viewers to the context of the techno-optimistic and technicist-brutalist notions at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The perspective of the technical, yet highly aesthetic and also, in a way, fragile and sensitive drawings by Jan Fi\u0161er interprets the repeatedly \u201ctold\u201d story of buildings that provide eternal inspiration to young generations of architects and designers, of the need to protect as well as to expertly interpret and historically contextualize the key architectonic gems of the second half of the twentieth century, while keeping in mind the political background of the \u201csocial normalization\u201d at the same time. For all these reasons, especially the latter one, the exhibition of the drawings by Jan Fi\u0161er (as well as works by younger authors), bearing an ambiguous title <\/span><b><i>Our TRANSGAS \u2013 and its children<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is located in the<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">parterre of the impressive urbanistic premises of the Masaryk\u2019s (the then Fu\u010d\u00edk\u2019s) street which emerged after the original historical buildings were demolished as part of the era\u2019s politics at the beginning of the 1980s.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b><i>Our Transgas \u2013 and its children <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">exhibition is yet another result of the programme concept of the \u00dast\u00ed nad Labem House of Arts \u2013 to react to its new, temporary location in the impersonal and neglected parterre of the deteriorating 1980s houses in the centre of the county town.
